Worldy Order

Sister Sun and Mother Moon
Brother Earth and Father Time
All four sat in their respective positions
Watching as intruders destroyed
What they had created.
Sister Sun shined down on Brother Earth
Telling him of what she saw
And as Brother Earth shed his tears
Upon the dark, black dirt
Attempting to clean what had been made dirty
He became angry and wiped away the buildings
The cars, the power lines, the houses, even some intruders.
And Sister Sun shined brighter
Burning those that took advantage of her light
And those that took advantage of her brother.
Mother Moon came out and sadly draped her son in dark
As Sister Sun went to sleep
Mother Moon put the creatures to rest
Calming Brother Earth.
And Father Time and Mother Moon
Conversed of the past when all was right
Between Brother Earth and Sister Sun.
Mother Moon tipped her face to Brother Earth
As Father Time sadly, reluctantly moved on
Waking those that made Family Life miserable.
And Brother Earth was mad again
As he was mad everyday
And Sister Sun shined on
Brighter and brighter
As Mother Moon rested
And Father Time kept moving.

  1. Silke, thank you for your latest installments of poems. My thoughts on them...

Believing – I like the great philosophical Qs embedded in this poem. I also like your phraseology e.g.
“What if it is true that each person born
    already has a past life
and that past life has a past life?”

OooohhH... I think I’m going to come back to this one. Some very deep Qs to ponder!

Violins – I’ve always wanted to play the violin. Do you play? I only did a few years of piano lessons in secondary school. There is something very magical and mesmerising about music instruments and the music they produce especially in orchestras.

Wordly Order – There’s a very Greek mythology or legend feel to the way you tell the narrative in this poem. I love the way you’ve personified the elements of the universe i.e. the sun, the moon, time, etc.

  2. Thank you, CathM. Yes, believing was/is one of my favorites. I do not play violin, though I have always wanted to. I play Clarinet and a little piano. I wrote this after seeing a performance during our humanities week here at the university. Wordly Order: I wrote this in my biology class while watching a movie on global warming. I guess this whole little installment has to do a little bit with becoming one with nature, and with each other. Thank you for your thoughts!
